G.D.H.S. Alumni & Friends Association.
Welcome To GDHSAlumni.net!!
The new G.D.H.S. Alumni and Friends Association was created on
June 22, 2003 after the great 50th Reunion Celebration held in
May. Made up of 12 members, the Board
consists of Susan Allan, Rick Cowell, Sharon Fletcher, Karen Hodgson, Mary
Simpson, Grant Wolfe, Leigh Ann Donatis, Sharon Jobson, Bob McEachren, Kirk
Patterson, Lenore Patterson, and Howard van der Hooft.
By our definition, an “alumnus” is any former student, teacher or support staff. Whether you worked there, graduated, loafed around, excelled, or dropped out, you are part of our alumni community.
A “friend” is anyone who cares about the high school. Perhaps you did not attend, but your children or grandchildren will. The Friends of G.D.H.S. care about the future of rural education in our community. Alumni and Friends believe that the school is an anchor to the local economy and they want the school to thrive for the next fifty years.
Because it costs money to administer this Association, the Board of Directors urges alumni and friends to purchase a membership. Friends, as well as past and present students, teachers and staff of the original Glencoe and Wardsville High Schools, the Bothwell and Melbourne Continuation Schools, and G.D.H.S. are welcome to buy a one-year membership ($10), five-year membership ($40) or Lifetime membership ($100). Membership privileges include the right to vote at general meetings and the right to be elected as a director.
Whether you purchase a
membership or not, all Alumni and Friends are considered part of this
Association and all are welcome to participate in all events (and help out).
The important thing is that we work together to “preserve the past, support the
present, and ensure the future”. We can no longer take our rural schools for
granted.
